The redevelopment of Her Majesty's Theatre represents a landmark transformation of one of Adelaide’s most iconic cultural venues into a state-of-the-art performing arts facility. This complex project seamlessly blends heritage preservation with modern engineering, requiring highly specialised solutions to meet both architectural and operational demands.

From an air conditioning perspective, the development presented a unique opportunity to deliver a sophisticated HVAC system capable of supporting world-class theatrical performances while ensuring exceptional comfort for patrons and performers alike. The design incorporated advanced climate control technologies to manage temperature, humidity, and acoustic sensitivity across diverse spaces, including the auditorium, backstage areas, rehearsal rooms, and public foyers.

The fire and smoke management systems required a thorough and detailed solution which was achieved and recognised by the MFS.

Given the constraints of the heritage structure, innovative plant integration and ductwork coordination were essential to maintain the building’s historic integrity while achieving optimal system performance. Energy efficiency and sustainability were also key drivers, with systems engineered to reduce operational costs and environmental impact without compromising reliability or comfort.

The result is a high-performance, future-ready air conditioning solution that enhances the theatre-going experience and supports the venue’s role as a premier destination for live entertainment in South Australia.
