The Lyell McEwin Hospital expansion delivered 48 new single inpatient rooms with ensuites, including specialised care rooms designed to improve patient comfort, privacy, and clinical outcomes. The project also incorporated a range of support spaces, including sterile areas, staff facilities, and divisional offices, enhancing the overall functionality of the hospital.
A key challenge of the project was delivering the expansion directly above existing operational patient floors. This required careful coordination and detailed planning to ensure that new mechanical services integrated seamlessly with existing systems, while minimising disruption to patients and hospital staff.
Our team delivered a comprehensive mechanical services package, including the installation of advanced systems designed to support critical healthcare environments:
-
Installation of new IL4 certified plant and equipment, including air handling systems and roof-mounted stair pressurisation systems
-
Medical gas systems with pandemic mode capability and island mode provisions
-
Integration and refurbishment of the Building Management System, unifying Building A into a single, fully integrated system
Through careful planning, collaboration, and a focus on practical, engineered solutions, the project was delivered successfully within a live hospital environment, supporting both new and existing facilities without compromising performance or patient care.
