The Modbury Hospital Redevelopment was a staged upgrade and expansion of the existing facility, delivered while maintaining full hospital operations. The project included upgrades to Administration, Outpatients, Short Stay General Medical and Medical Surgical Units, along with a new Palliative Care Unit and key infrastructure improvements.
A key component of the works was a rooftop air handling plantroom servicing four new operating theatres, two procedure rooms, and the Outpatients Department extension. This complex scope was successfully delivered defect free and on time.
The upgrade also included:
-
4 new operating theatres and 2 procedure rooms
-
Extension of the Emergency Care Unit and High Dependency Unit
-
New 20-bed palliative care unit and 26-bed short stay unit
-
New consulting and treatment rooms
-
New Outpatients Department
-
Upgrades to existing mechanical services infrastructure, including medical gases and Building Management Systems
Delivering the project within a live hospital environment required careful staging and coordination to minimise disruption to staff and patients. A collaborative approach with the managing contractor Built Environs and all trades was key to achieving a successful outcome.
Offsite prefabrication and programme optimisation helped streamline installation, reduce overall site time, and limit disruption, with works carried out alongside fully operational areas of the hospital.
